The Essential Basics of Backgammon Strategies – Part Two

As we dicussed in the last article, Backgammon is a casino game of ability and good luck. The goal is to move your chips safely around the game board to your inner board and at the same time your opposition shifts their checkers toward their inside board in the opposing direction. With opposing player checkers shifting in opposing directions there is bound to be conflict and the requirement for specific techniques at specific instances. Here are the last two Backgammon strategies to complete your game.

The Priming Game Strategy

If the purpose of the blocking strategy is to slow down the opponent to shift her pieces, the Priming Game tactic is to absolutely barricade any activity of the opponent by building a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The competitor’s chips will either get hit, or end up in a bad position if he at all tries to leave the wall. The ambush of the prime can be established anyplace between point 2 and point 11 in your half of the board. As soon as you have successfully built the prime to stop the activity of the opponent, the competitor does not even get a chance to toss the dice, and you shift your pieces and roll the dice yet again. You will be a winner for sure.

The Back Game Strategy

The objectives of the Back Game technique and the Blocking Game technique are very similar – to hurt your competitor’s positions with hope to improve your odds of succeeding, but the Back Game technique utilizes alternate tactics to do that. The Back Game strategy is commonly used when you’re far behind your competitor. To play Backgammon with this technique, you have to control 2 or more points in table, and to hit a blot (a single piece) late in the game. This tactic is more challenging than others to play in Backgammon seeing as it needs careful movement of your chips and how the chips are moved is partially the result of the dice toss.
