The Basics of Backgammon Game Plans – Part One

The goal of a Backgammon match is to move your pieces around the Backgammon board and bear them from the game board faster than your competitor who works harder to attempt the same buthowever they move in the opposing direction. Succeeding in a round of Backgammon requires both tactics and fortune. Just how far you can shift your chips is left to the numbers from tossing the dice, and the way you move your pieces are determined by your overall gambling plans. Players use different strategies in the different parts of a game depending on your positions and opponent’s.

The Running Game Technique

The goal of the Running Game technique is to lure all your checkers into your home board and pull them off as quick as you could. This plan concentrates on the speed of moving your checkers with no efforts to hit or barricade your opponent’s chips. The best scenario to employ this plan is when you think you can shift your own checkers quicker than your opponent does: when 1) you have less checkers on the board; 2) all your chips have moved beyond your competitor’s checkers; or 3) the opposing player doesn’t use the hitting or blocking plan.

The Blocking Game Tactic

The primary aim of the blocking plan, by its name, is to block your competitor’s chips, temporarily, while not worrying about shifting your chips rapidly. After you have created the barrier for your opponent’s movement with a couple of chips, you can move your other pieces rapidly from the board. You will need to also have a good strategy when to extract and shift the checkers that you employed for the blockade. The game gets interesting when the opposition uses the same blocking technique.
