The Basics of Backgammon Tactics – Part Two

As we have dicussed in the previous article, Backgammon is a game of ability and good luck. The goal is to move your checkers safely around the game board to your inside board and at the same time your opponent shifts their chips toward their home board in the opposite direction. With opposing player pieces shifting in opposing directions there is bound to be conflict and the requirement for specific techniques at specific times. Here are the two final Backgammon strategies to complete your game.

The Priming Game Tactic

If the aim of the blocking strategy is to hamper the opponents ability to move her pieces, the Priming Game tactic is to absolutely barricade any movement of the opposing player by assembling a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The opponent’s checkers will either get bumped, or end up in a battered position if he/she at all tries to escape the wall. The trap of the prime can be setup anyplace between point 2 and point 11 in your half of the board. Once you have successfully constructed the prime to stop the movement of the opponent, your competitor doesn’t even get a chance to roll the dice, that means you move your checkers and toss the dice yet again. You will win the game for sure.

The Back Game Plan

The objectives of the Back Game strategy and the Blocking Game tactic are very similar – to harm your opponent’s positions with hope to boost your chances of succeeding, however the Back Game tactic relies on seperate tactics to achieve that. The Back Game strategy is generally utilized when you’re far behind your opponent. To compete in Backgammon with this strategy, you need to hold 2 or more points in table, and to hit a blot late in the game. This technique is more challenging than others to employ in Backgammon because it needs careful movement of your checkers and how the pieces are relocated is partially the outcome of the dice roll.
