Backgammon is the oldest game in recorded history. It has been known as the "little battle," backgammon started in Mesopotamia (now known as Iraq) over 5 millennia ago. However, Egyptians referred to backgammon as "Senat," which is a close form of the present game played right now. Hundreds of years ago, only people of influence, the prevailing figures of aristocracy like Egyptian queens, were permitted to play. The game began to grow worldwide since then. Numerous Backgammon variants were developed in several regions and cultures, but the main codes of those variants are similar to those of the archaic form . For instance, Greece took hold of the game and called it by the title "bac gamen." From there, the Anglo’s started playing backgammon in the 17th century and have continued to play it ever since. Backgammon and competing archaic games were never accepted by a number of churches. The churchgoers believe that the game was the work of Beelzebub. This caused churches to blacklist and burn the game. The ban and burning did not prevent individuals taking part in games and being entertained.
Computers offer an additional arena for Backgammon.
