The Essential Basics of Backgammon Game Plans – Part 2

[ English ]

As we have dicussed in the previous article, Backgammon is a game of skill and good luck. The goal is to shift your chips carefully around the game board to your inside board and at the same time your opposition shifts their pieces toward their inside board in the opposite direction. With opposing player pieces shifting in opposite directions there is going to be conflict and the requirement for particular tactics at specific instances. Here are the last two Backgammon techniques to complete your game.

The Priming Game Tactic

If the purpose of the blocking plan is to hamper the opponents ability to shift her checkers, the Priming Game plan is to completely stop any movement of the opponent by building a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The competitor’s chips will either get bumped, or result a battered position if he/she ever attempts to leave the wall. The ambush of the prime can be setup anywhere between point 2 and point eleven in your half of the board. Once you’ve successfully constructed the prime to stop the movement of your opponent, your competitor does not even get a chance to toss the dice, and you move your pieces and toss the dice again. You will be a winner for sure.

The Back Game Strategy

The aims of the Back Game technique and the Blocking Game strategy are very similar – to hinder your competitor’s positions in hope to better your odds of succeeding, however the Back Game technique relies on alternate tactics to achieve that. The Back Game plan is generally utilized when you’re far behind your competitor. To compete in Backgammon with this technique, you need to hold two or more points in table, and to hit a blot late in the game. This plan is more challenging than others to use in Backgammon because it needs careful movement of your checkers and how the chips are moved is partly the outcome of the dice toss.
