The Basics of Backgammon Game Plans – Part 2

As we have dicussed in the previous article, Backgammon is a game of ability and pure luck. The aim is to move your checkers safely around the board to your inside board while at the same time your opponent shifts their chips toward their inside board in the opposing direction. With opposing player checkers moving in opposing directions there is going to be conflict and the need for specific strategies at particular times. Here are the last two Backgammon strategies to finish off your game.

The Priming Game Plan

If the aim of the blocking plan is to slow down the opponent to shift his pieces, the Priming Game strategy is to absolutely stop any activity of the opponent by constructing a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The opponent’s chips will either get bumped, or end up in a battered position if she ever attempts to escape the wall. The trap of the prime can be built anyplace between point two and point eleven in your game board. As soon as you’ve successfully constructed the prime to block the movement of your competitor, your competitor does not even get a chance to roll the dice, that means you move your chips and roll the dice again. You will be a winner for sure.

The Back Game Technique

The objectives of the Back Game strategy and the Blocking Game technique are similar – to hinder your competitor’s positions with hope to boost your odds of winning, however the Back Game tactic utilizes different techniques to achieve that. The Back Game tactic is generally utilized when you’re far behind your competitor. To compete in Backgammon with this tactic, you have to hold 2 or more points in table, and to hit a blot (a single checker) late in the game. This technique is more challenging than others to employ in Backgammon because it needs careful movement of your pieces and how the checkers are relocated is partly the result of the dice roll.
